Whether you’re looking to introduce dance for fitness or a new hobby, or aspiring towards a career in Dance, Musical Theatre or Performing Arts, Essential Energy welcome all.
How it all began...
Essential Energy Dance and Theatre School was founded by Dawn Aldred whose passion for Dance and Theatre has always remained present. Essential Energy was started with a vision to help people of all ages to embrace the free flowing energy of dance and theatre and develop those aspiring to reach the spotlights.
We are a Matlock Dance and Theatre School based at The Lime Tree Conference Centre, Lime Tree Business Park, Lime Tree Road, Matlock, DE4 3EJ, a centre for the performing arts. We teach dance at all grades to IDTA Examination level in Theatre Dance. We do an annual production at the Pomegranate Theatre Chesterfield, as well as performing at charity events and other functions and venues.
We offer classes for people of all capabilities, standards and ages, from students as young as 2 years and upwards including adult classes. To find out more about our classes, please head over to our Classes Page.
Dawn also offers coaching for aspiring teachers from beginners levels all the way up to offering availability for those looking to gain a higher level of IDTA professional qualifications in all theatre dance genres.

Dawn Aldred
Principal / Teacher / Examiner
IDTA Fellow and Examiner, Dance Ex Dip. Experience - Choreographer with 40 years of teaching experience (she started young!) Teaches all theatre dance subjects. Freelance Choreographer for Amateur Dramatic groups and including Head Choreographer for the Queens Jubilee Celebrations at Pride Park Stadium, Derby.
Megan Hambly
Senior Teacher / Choreographer
LIDTA Freestyle, Musical Theatre Dip., Level 4 Diploma Modern Jazz. Megan has over 20 years’ experience in Freestyle / Commercial / Cheerleading / Contemporary Modern Jazz / Musical Theatre.
Megan also continues to study for further IDTA teaching qualifications.
Alex Peet
Teacher / Choreographer
Ballet / Tap / Contemporary Modern Jazz / Acrobatics and holds a BA (Hons) dance degree.
Alex also continues her training to gain a higher level of IDTA qualifications.
